Dear Parent or Guardian,
While issues of grief and loss are hard for anyone to handle, they can be especially painful and confusing for children. Sharing with other children who are in similar situations and knowing that they are not alone can be very helpful. We invite your child to take part in a positive, healing experience with Camp Comfort.

Camp Comfort will be offering two weekend long camps in the mountains and one day camp for three days in metro Denver this summer. Children learn ways to cope with their grief through workshops and activities, building skills to help them now and throughout their lives. Workshops are balanced with exciting recreational and creative activities, so that children feel free to have fun and just be kids.
Our hope is that an experience at Camp Comfort will assist your child in understanding their loss while having fun and finding support with other children who have lost a loved one.

FAQ
Any child between the ages of 6 and 12 who is grieving the death of a family member or friend.
Children’s bereavement professionals, clinical staff, and volunteers supervise campers. All staff and volunteers are screened and undergo background checks. A camp nurse is available for first aid and to dispense medications. A behavioral specialist is available to provide specific behavior and emotional support to accommodate social/emotional needs of campers. Licensed therapists facilitate the grief workshops.
For the weekend camps, specially trained volunteers, called “buddies,” stay with their assigned campers throughout the weekend including in the cabins at night.
Please reference your child’s special needs on the intake form and during the intake phone call. All children will be considered on an individual basis, based on camp’s abilities to meet their needs.
Our weekend camps are located in the mountains about 40 miles west of Denver off of I-70.
Our day camp is located on the west side of the Denver metro.
Camp Comfort is free for all children thanks to our generous donors. We do require a $25 nonrefundable deposit per child to hold their spot.
Stories
The Friday Family share their experience with Mount Evans’ Camp Comfort after the death of the girls’ father. “When I picked the girls up from Camp Comfort, I knew that they had let things in. I knew that that had looked at things. I knew at that point, only four months into this journey, that we just needed to crack the surface, and I knew that Camp Comfort did that.”
Chantae Thomas and her sons share their experience with Mount Evans’ Camp Comfort after the death of their husband and father. “This is an amazing opportunity to just allow the kids to realize that they’re not alone and that they can express any of the things that they’re experiencing in that moment.”
Brandon Heelon shares his experience with Mount Evans’ Camp Comfort both as a volunteer and as a former camper. “I really value being able to relate to the kids and as soon as they step out of their vehicles, I just remember those feelings, it really has brought things full circle for me. And each weekend I’m able to come up here, it’s a very reflective experience on what I had went through as a child, so I have an opportunity to be able to relive some of those moments and hopefully be able to inspire kids that come through Camp Comfort.”
